Thirty-five volunteers, men and women, gave their time on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at the North Sydney Community Center (under strict Covid-19 restrictions) to pack 600 Birthing Kits for women in developing countries. The kits will be distributed by Birthing Kit Foundation Australia, which has "... supplied over 2.4 million clean birth kits to women in remote regions of over 30 countries, trained over 10,000 traditional birth attendants and contributed to the prevention of FGM in communities that were killing their women in childbirth. The impact of our work can not be underestimated, with many unexpected benefits for the women and communities we support. You can find out more here. A disturbing report, based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics, shows that one thing is clear: Women continue to be disproportionately affected by the pandemic’s impact on the economy, compared to men.

One-Minute Silence against Domestic Violence on December 4, 2020: Zonta Club of North Sydney members Linda Bisnette and Marie Dayton attended the event held in Chatswood in remembrance and acknowledgement of the victims of domestic and family violence, based on the United Nations' "16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence." The event was organized by the Lower North Shore Domestic Violence Network. Zonta Club of North Sydney contributed a yearly Christmas project of #sharethedignity. The new-look No Excuse for Abuse campaign calls on Australians to recognize that behaviors such as verbal put downs, controlling household spending, or checking a partner's text messages are all forms of abuse. An updated campaign was launched aiming to raise awareness of nonphysical forms of violence following reports of a rise in domestic violence during the Covid-19 lockdown. Targeting men and women between the age of 18 and 44, the campaign was redeveloped in light of a reported surge in Google searches for crisis support services for domestic violence and an increase in calls to helplines, including 1800RESPECT. There is an urgent need to educate the broader community about the various types of abuse. Nonphysical forms of abuse are serious, inexcusable, and preventable.
